My 20 year old son has auto and auto insurance in his name and is a full
time student. He is also an active reserve Marine. If we choose to deduct him on our income tax return will this make us liable in the event he has an auto accident and is sued because we would be claiming him as a dependent? Or does having his insurance and auto in his name limit his assets to the liability of a suit related to an auto accident? |

I would get a legal opinion from a local lawyer if it is critical for you but normally that would not make you liable for the accident--at least in our situation where an accident also occured just like that.
Only our son was liable. |
