U-Haul Truck

While driving a u-haul truck I drove under a hotels entry way and not knowing the clearance I grazed the entry way with the u-haul. Not doing any damage to the u-haul, I knocked down a board and dented another. The Manager of the Hotel said we are going to have to pay for the damages. He said this happens all the time. He also said the same thing happened a couple of weeks ago, a guy drove a big truck right though and never stopped. The manager said the have not even received the bill on that yet but thought it was around $5500. The Manager called and said he just got a quote on the damages and it is going to be $3600. He also said that he was going to split it with the people who hit it the very next day. Go figure!!! I know that I did not do $3600 in damages, but I also don't know about the other people who hit the entry way either. What do I do? Am I still liable for the charges?

You can refuse and even argue that they should have more clearly marked the clearance--and since they did not they are partially liable.
