Please Help...Hit & Run by Garbage Truck
I was parked out in front of my house and at about 6:30 - 7:00 am I woke up and found that my car had been hit and pushed 12 feet from the parking spot so that it actually blocked my neighbor's driveway. I live in a suburban area and there is a good deal of parking in front of each house.
The indentations on my car and ripped bumper show a perfect imprint of a large truck fender - the depth of the imprint shows that there was a great force (obviously it pushed my car 12 feet) but that is made such an impact and ripped off part of my bumper... however, it was slow moving because anything stronger would have smashed my back window (which is unscratched) The only trucks on my street are garbage trucks and my father saw the garbage truck driving quickly away from our area, unfortunately, he did not see the actual impact. I'm a 26 year old college student and I work full time to pay for my tuition... I can't afford to pay the extra insurance premiums for an accident that had to do with someone else's negligence. I filed a police report but I don't know what to do now. When I called the company to find out what trucks were scheduled on my road that day they told me that they didn't need to give me any information, but they also couldn't help me unless I proved it. What do I do? I've never been in this situation before and I don't know what steps to take in order to get them to acknowledge their negligence and pay for the damages to my car??? Please help... as I said - I really am at a loss on what to do - any advice would help. Thank you |

Based on what you say here, you could file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior... You may also report them to your state attorney general's office.
