EEK! Change of Title

In 2004 I sold my car for cash so someone that I did not know. I did get a bill of sale, just a piece of paper that was hand written. In 2006 a man driving my old car hit someone head on and died. I do not know if this was the same man that bought my car. Last year, a collection agency company of the person who was hit. Wrote me a letter that I still was listed on the title as the owner and that they were suing going to sue me for negligence. After speaking to them on the phone I then faxed them a letter of the bill of sale, they agreed and dropped the whole thing. I just got served papers that I am not being sued by the business of the person who was hit for the workman comp the company had to pay. They are suing me for $27,000. I really don't know what to do. They are suing me for "negligently in trusting his vehicle to (driver) when (I) knew or should have known (driver) was and unfit driver" and or "negligently in trusting his vehicle to and individual (I) knew or should have know was under the influence of alcohol." I did not know this person, I don't even think they are actually the person I sold the car too. To make matters worse I can not find that bill of sale. I have tried to find a lawyer that would help me but they all want $5000 retainer. I don't have that kinda money. Is there anything I can do. I have to respond to the lawsuit asap.
Thanks for all your help!

Do the same thing you did before. Once you show the bill of sale you should be okay. You may have to show it in court.
