Car strikes house
Recently I was helping a friend do general labor, clean up, and painting for a friend of his family. Long story short, my car at the time was a deathtrap and barely roadworthy. One day while coming down the driveway my brakes completely let out on me and I was forced to damage the side of the house to stop myself. Minor structural damage occurred on impact and I shortly thereafter had the car towed away, canceled insurance, returned the plates, etc. This all happened a month ago today. The home owners father (who was overseeing the work we were conducting on the house) and I had a verbal agreement that I was to patch it up with mortar, and I did so to the best of my ability, me, never having done that before. He knew that fact outright. He now wishes to pursue me for money or a settlement of some sort, I am confused because it seems to me that he has no case at all. I have compiled a list of the facts underneath this note, I am asking for a second (or more) opinions because I realize that I could be missing something, not being a law student. I wish to know if he has a case or what he can do to me, and if anything, what can I do to block his efforts?
Thank you in advance,
KW
