Wisconsin. I'm an international student and I got involved in a car accident and no one was hurt, but the other car damged and my insurance was expired at that time. the accident was in April 2009 and I got a letter from a debt collecter threatening me that if I didn't pay the amount might increase and they'll get it from me. The problem is that the amount is too high for me and I can't afford it as my allownce barley covers my expenses (rent, gas, food) and I'll be leaving the US within a year. I don't own any proberty accept my car.
So, my question is can they or anybody else have access to my bank account? can I be sent to jail or end up in court for this? Thanks. |

I wish to inform you that as there was a damage to the car in accident, therefore, you may be made liable for the actual loss which the other party has suffered. Your bank account may be applied towards loss only after court has passed necessary order. In this regard, the court will decide after giving due consideration to all the facts and relative fault of the parties.

AFFA, Thank you for your reply.
I just want to add that the amount isn't for the car. It's for these services (two Radiology, Ingenix Subrogation service, two hospital services, ambulance). The traffic judge earsed the points I got for this accident after two weeks. Does this info change anything? |
