My dad was involved in a minor car bump accident. There was no damages to his car, and the other car as well. To make it worse, the other driver was some young kid that wasnt insured. They didnt exchange any info (insurance info), my dad only left him his cell phone number. The other driver told him it was fine, that there was no damage anyways. He took a picture of my dad's car license plate. That was all, and they left. No police report, and no witnesses.
A couple days later, this "supposed doctor" calls my dad up at work and says that they need his insurance info, cuz the kid was feeling some back pain. Dad told him that the kid was fine, when it happened. And that he wasnt giving them any info. He said he was too busy @ work and hanged up. My dad decided that day to take pictures of his car, to show proof that his car was fine(only 3 days after the accident, and it has the date on the pictures), he also went to the police, and told them that he's getting harrased by some person trying to make false claim. They didnt write a report or anything but they did look at my dad's car and saw that it was fine. About a month later we get this car insurance paper. Saying that they recieved a claim that our vehicle was involved in an accident. The name on the claim was not the kid's name. But had same last name. This piece of paper is asking for our insurance info. Wat should we do? Contact our insurance and tell them someone is making a false claim? Or get a lawyer involved in this matter? |

Never, ever , never think it's OK not to call the police in an accident on a public street. Now you know why.
At this point I'd turn the matter over to your insurance company and let them handle it although they're going to take a very dim view of you having an accident without reporting it regardless of lack of damage. |

I'm in the same kind of situtation. I was in a car accident four days ago, my car slipped on the ice as i was trying to stop and I tapped the bumper of the person in front of me. We both get out of our cars, looking to see if there was any damage and there wasn't. But she wanted my information, my insurance and everything so i gave it to her, just to make sure. She wasn't complaining of injury, there was no damage and we didnt see reason to call the police.
Today, her insurance calls me saying she is claiming injury and they want someone to come to my house to check out my car. I wasn't smart on the day of the accident, considering it was my first, and i didnt get any of her information. I talked to a police officer who told me she is probably just trying to get money out of me and that i should get her information before i let anyone come to my house. The only thing is, i dont know what is going to happen. I am just a kid and I found out that many people get away with this. However i have a witness and there is no damage. But i am still scared out of my mind. What should i do? |

tell your insurer to deal with the other side--you should not do so
