Default No Insurance

Hello. My vehicle was hit a couple of weeks ago in a school parking lot by a school employee.I was in the vehicle when this occured. I called the police and they showed up right away and took a report and obtained my info and the other driver's info. The other driver and myself are insured by the same company so I thought. When I gave the other drivers info to this company I was informed that the coverage had lapsed a while ago for the other driver and further more the other driver wasn't listed on the expired policy. My question is who do I go after and how do I go about getting the damages to my vehicle repaired. I live in New Jersey.
