I was taking a hotel-operated shuttle van to an airport. The van was involved in an accident that ruined some very expensive video equipment. Is the hotel liable for the cost to replace the gear?

The insurer of the van will pay you. It is either the hotel that has the insurance or the van operator.
Ask the hotel to clarify who is the insurer. |

If they try to not pay you, take them to small claims court--even if they have a disclaimer on the ticket.

Wow!! That was fast!!
I guess that I should have added, the hotel is in Belize, but the owner of the resort lives in Pennsylvania. That complicates thing a bit, doesn't it? |

It should still be insured. If they give a hassle as to payment you can still try to file on the owner, but in order to work through the international jurisdictional issues you may want to hook in with one of the international lawyers on the world law site privately to work through details.
If they cater to a US audience they should be insured. |

I hope you will get your compensation for your broken things. hotel is responsible for that accident as the van was there. it can take time but you will get your claims.
