Default Can I represent myself?

My family and I had a car accident in North Carolina while driving through. I was injured and required surgery, I'm advised for more surgery but don't want it. My husband also has some problems. Can I represent us? I know the whole process, you say you're suing, they come up with a dollar amount you except or counter offer etc. Is there a letter form that I can write and send to the insurance company and see what happens? I don't want to give 1/3 to attorneys when all they are doing in the beginning is shuffling paper. Please let me know. I appreciate any advice.

You can try yes, and then if you do not get a dollar amount you wish you may then seek counsel.
