Accident rear ended another car/help/don't know what to do

My wife and I was just leaving the veterans office. We were at a red light. The light turned green and as I was moving along. The 2nd car in front of me slowed down real quick to turn right. The car in front of me slammed on their brakes. There I go slamming my brakes and slidding into the rear end of the car in front of me. I'm disabled (herniated disk) and this hits me hard when I don't need anymore problems.
I was the one driving and with suspended license(behind child support). What also isnt to good is it that the car were in is uninsured, and is in my mothers name.
All damage was with my car. The other car only had scratches on the bumper. This all happened ealier today. Now my wifes back, neck and I think somethings wrong with her sternum/or schest muscles. The reason we were going to the vet office is to get papers filled out. We need medi-cal cause I don't have the money for medical treatment for my family. Tomorrow I'm going to take my wife to the county hosp for xrays. If theres something wrong with my wife. Can I get the other party's insurance to pay for medical expenses. If I cant can I sue for damages. Not for my car or me but my injured wife?
