I have an old debt that has popped up during preparations for closing on the sale of my home. In 1996 the debt was about $3,500. There was a legal judgement and a lien was filed against my home. As we are about to close, the debt is showing as over $8,000. I want to know if there are any laws governing interest being charged on judgements where a lien is filed on property.
I am in Oklahoma. Thanks for your help. |

The judgment should have cited what interest rate governs. Otherwise there is normally one rate applied and your local court can confirm what it is.
