Privacy and bad checks

Recently, I have had some severe financial difficulties. Some checks did not clear my account. However, this has been rectified and all the checks concerned have either been paid through my bank or I have paid the vendor directly.

My problem is this: My local grocery store has posted by their cash registers lists of customers titled "do not accept checks". These lists are posted by each cash register in the store AND the list is easily in view of all customers in the store. Yes, because of my recent financial difficulty, my name is on this list. Isn't this an invasion of my privacy? Please advise.

You could threaten to sue and they might back down. But it is not stricly illegal.
