I received a payroll check from the university where I teach. The university and my teaching are in Virginia, USA. Reading through the Web some Websites give the civil penalty for a bounced check as "the lesser of $100 and three times the amount of the check." That does not make sense! What would make sense is "the GREATER of $100 and three times the amount of the check," for how can the penalty be even less than the amount of the check? Anyone knows about this?

meaning a 100 charge or if the check is for ten dollars then a 30 dollar charge
if the check is for 500 dollars then the fee is 100 |
