Oregon - Former friend threatening to sue?

My mother was in the process of starting up a restaurant and she asked one of her friends if she wanted to help her. Her friend Kim just left her husband and had no where to go. My mom told her that she couldn't pay her at the beginning but when the restaurant got up and running that she would be able to give her make her manager and give her salary then.Until that time she would be able to provide a guest house,food,spending money,and health care. Kim was so excited to have a new start she was leaving her husband and had no where to go.When the restaurant finally opened Kim feel apart, one week into working as a manager she realize that it would be that hard and gave up.My mom seeing the restaurant going down the tubes,told Kim that is was not working out as a manager and she was hoping that she could stay on as a waitress. Kim left and now a year later is asking for payment for the 3.5 months working to start the restaurant.She said that she worked 7days a week 12 hr days.She is threatening to sue my mother for the money. My mom had an oral agreement with her and now she emailed my mom stating how she didn't understand how my mother could think that she would agree keep to her end of the agreement. Does she have a case?
