Default Can they charge me an additional membership fee?

Can a karate facility in California charge me an additional membership fee when I paid for the July and canceled my membership on July 15 and now they are charging me for August per our agreement? Is this legal if it is in the agreement we signed? I heard that 24 hour fitness couldn't legally do this.

Normally no--what does your contract say?

The contract stated that "in order to terminate the contract written notice must be given with at least 30 days notice...." of course this means that the first of the month (the day that payments are dedcuted automatically from my account) will come around again and another payment will be deducted, even when I'm no longer utilizing the services.
