Question Big company - no customer service

I puchased a vehicle off of eBay on 7/6/07 and had it financed through HSBC per eBay link. I was sent documentation with the purchasing check that stated they will send me the needed information in order to transfer title and get my tag within 30 days (as required by law). I never received and began calling HSBC to no avail. Every call ended in no resolution, so on 9/25/07 I contacted the Better Business Bureau. Even with them involved, it took until 11/28/07 for me to receive my title information. The problem is that now I live in Florida who will charge me sales tax on the purchase ($1200). I lived in Georgia for 60 days after the purchase and would not have had to pay the sales tax had the title information been sent as they documented.

The BBB has closed my case since I have received my title, now I am stuck with a $1200 bill due to the negligence of HSBC. It does not seem right that I should have to pay this since all of this was outside my control. Should I have to, and what are my next steps legally?

Matt

Based on what you say here, you could file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior...
