I would like to publish a funny book which I think would be a best seller in the West.
How do I go about it ? How could I be played out by publishers and others? What pitfalls do I need to look out for? |

I wish to inform you that you may approach the reputed book publishing houses in your city or in your state. You may discuss the concept of your book and the fact that you want to sell it in the West. If the publishing house is interested they will settle the terms and conditions with you and sign an agreement. They may pay you the money upfront or they may pay you royalty. Otherwise, you can get the book published yourself and sell it through book retailers and distributors working on a commission agency basis.

I would like to inform you that you can self-publish your literary book. This means that you make a connection with a small scale publishing firm. These are often what a called print on demand is. This means that they will only print as many copies as you need. This is great if you only plan to print a few hundred or less. You don't really have to know how to publish a book for these purposes. The publishing company will tell you exactly what to do.

Is this a good idea, an email I planned to send to authorhouse at
Contact us by postal mail: 1663 Liberty Drive Bloomington, IN 47403 ------------------------------------ Dear Sir, I wish to publish a Funny Book, which I am a 100 % sure will be a Best Seller. The concept is unique. I have already listed over 130 funny's that will be graphically designed with the help of a Graphic artist from a Publishing house such as yours. One funny graphic on page 1 say, with the caption describing it on page 2 and so on. So, all the funny graphics will be on odd pages, and their descriptive cations on the reverse even pages. So 130 x 2 = 260 pages Would you be interested in this project ? I would like a Royalty on it. So, what are your terms ? |

I am telling about your own work only. You are from India. I would like to inform you that fill out and sign Form IV (the Indian copyright registration form), available on the Copyright Office's website. You can complete the form and send online through e-file. Pay the required fee by a card online or by money order. Enclose three copies of all forms. Wait two to three months to receive your certificate of registration. The Copyright Office may contact you during that time if there is a discrepancy or an objection or to request more information.

I am not in India.
I read that in the UK you can post to yourself by registered post the article that you wish to copyright with a c in circle and not open it till your copyright has been violated and use it in a court of law !! It's quick. Anyway, is it risky doing it the above mentioned way by contacting a publisher in aother country ? |

What did the OP end up doing? Publishing has got to be possible all over the world. If your idea is good enough someone out there will pick it up for sure!

If one wants to publish a book they are SURE will be a best seller, get an agent. One needs to know the industry, be reasonably confident the book is salable, have an experienced, successful editor and or agent look at it first, know the publishing market and publishers well enough to know who to approach, what type of advance payment is appropriate and reasonable, what percentage for royalties should be negotiated, what the ebook market is like and whether that would be an appropriate forum to publish, and so and so on.
Everyone has a book in them. But getting it published is another thing. |
