Default Contractor files Chapter 13

In July 09 I signed a contract with Apex Roofing & Remodeling for a new roof and other construction needs for my home. My insurance company inspected and approved the needed work, issued me a check for $4029.00 which I signed over to Donald Easter owner of Apex. I have not seen Mr. Easter since signing the check and no work has been done. I've made numerous calls to Apex as well as emails with no response. On 10/5 I received a letter from Apex stating that Apex has filed for Chapter 13. Apex had done several roofs in my subdivision and had an A+ rating with the BBB. I am responsible for repayment to my insurance company since I contracted with Apex. I am in great need of your expertise. What should I do?

Contact the bankruptcy court involved ASAP.

You should be able to get that money back if you gave it just before the bankruptcy.

Is there a specific time frame in which I have to contact the bankruptcy court? It may take sometime to get court information.
