Default Franchisor Suing without corporate charter

I am involved in a franchise and have fallen behind on my royalty payments. My franchisor is trying to sue me for past royalites, however, I have found that their corporate charter has been revoked by the state of incorporation. The reason is failing to pay the fees and file updated articles of incorporation.

Without a corporate charter, are the legal authorized to be in business and demanding royalites? Do I have a case against them?
