My orgrinal question was:
If you are a non-profit organization that was incorparated say in Georgia and you wanted to do business in Alabama what do you have to do? Do you need to just register with the state of Alabama as a foreign corporation or is there something else that you must do?

I got the response:
Yes that is all you need to do unless you start to have a physical presence there and actively solicit there.

Then you may need to have the state issue approvals for that. In fact you normally would need permissions.

So my last question is:
So say we are receiving grants and doing business in the state of Alabama is there any other kind of premission we would need other than a Certificate of Authority?

Check with the state dept of corporation nonprofit staff but you need to be licensed to fund raise in many states if you are soliciting the public for tax deductible contributions.

If you are not doing that, you normally need not do more than register as a foreign corp.
