Default Any change to get money back

I had a contract to innovate house with a contractor. He could not finish the job but owed me $6,000 still (Written and signed by contractor about this debt). But now he declared bankruptcy. How is the likelihood that I can get back my money. Would go to a small claim court help ? Or is there any other venues to get the money back? The event is in Ontario, Canada.

I appreciate any help.
