Question Verbal Contract non-payment

I designed branding and logo for someone who was trying to get financing for a restaurant he was opening. When he got another job offer out of state, he decided not to open it. He verbally agreed to pay me $10,000 for the design and logo, and even included it in the loan paperwork. Is he still obligated to pay me for this design? I know he has to if he ever decides to use it, but the work is already done. How do I go about this?
