Default Is this legal

I had a business bankruptcy which turned very ugly. Some of my clients tried to stop the bankrutcy and when that didn't work they managed to get the police involved. Our personal and business attorney handled the matter which took over a year to resolve. During that time I continued to ask our attorney about the charges and she would say just send what you can each month. Then when a court date was set a elderly friend of mine contacted my attorney and told her she wanted to help with fees. She said she had $20K available...she is 84 years old and her daughter is her legal power of attorney. Suddenly I received a email from my attorney stating her fee for the case was $20K. The case was eventually resolved with a misdeamnor charge and a small $190 fine. The night before the court date my attorney called and said I needed to come to her office with my friend to sign the papers necessary to resolve the case the next day.

While at her office she proceded to tell me that she was pulling out of the case unless we gave her $20K that night. We had already given her $10K that day. She told me that I had to sign a loan agreement and so did my friend for the full $20K or she was pulling out of the case and we would need to start all over. My friend was in tears, she told my lawyer she didn't know what she was signing and that she wanted to have her daughter come over before she signed anything. My attorney told her she had the power to sign papers even if her daughter was her power of attorney and that she didn't have alnight to wait...I said lets leave but she scribbled her name on the bottom and left...

Is this legal.
