I had contracted a lawyer to fight a battery case against me. We had agreed on an amount of $1500 payable in 3 payments verbally and I paid him one payment of $1150 without signing any contract. However all he did was send a letter to the court stating that he will represent me and asking for a new date as he will be out of town. However, on the day of my case that he had asked to be rescheduled, in the attorney absence the state dismissed my case. Am I entitled to a refund, at least partially? Can you give your opinion.
