Question Blinded Kitten -- Seems the Vet is tapping into notarioty and money?

My friend fosters stray, unwanted cats & kittens. She has paid out of her meager funds for the care, food, litter etc. She provides a loving stable home for these until "forever" homes can be found.

A few days ago, a kitten came to her doorstep. It was blind. She was so taken by this little rag a muffin. She spent the day seeking emergency care for him. She finally went to the Vet who usually does the spay/neuters of the strays. Upon evaluation, the Vet determined the kitten had suffered trauma as his eyes were either poked with something or he was shot with a BB gun. The corneas were also ruined.

My friend left the kitten for evaluation and further tests. She also contacted the local news station and a reporter jumped at the story. The same response was also given by the local news paper.

Since the Vet stated that the surgery required would be to implant prosthetic eyeballs, it would cost approx. $1500.00. My friend as I said has very meager funds. So she set up a Facebook page telling his story with links to the news media coverage.

Phone calls and funds started coming immediately to the Vet's office. My friend went to a local bank to set up a special account to fund his care. But was denied because of no 501c. She was trying to get this.

When my friend went to see the kitten today, she was treated like nobody. She was presented with a Release Form...giving ALL rights to the little guy to the Vet?!?!?!

When she questioned the Vet...she was told all sorts of off the wall stories. Then when asked further, those stories changed.

My friend wants her foster kitten back...she NEVER told the Vet she did not want him. She realizes his special needs and wants to work with him and get him confident before ANYONE would be able to adopt him. She has had special needs pets before.

She doesn't know I am doing this. Is there anything she can do? I have found that FOX and ABC want to do a story on him as well. Seems the Vet is tapping into notarioty and money?

I wish to inform you that Vet can be held liable if Vet has not provided proper treatment. A Vet is a person having knowledge and also duty to take proper care of kitten. Your friend had taken the kitten under the assumption that proper treatment will be provided. As Vet had failed to perform his duty therefore he can be held liable for the loss.

I wish to inform you that every state in the United States have a law prohibiting cruelty to animals. These laws do not give animals rights, but do afford some legal protection. The purposes of these laws are to deter violence by humans in any form as well as to protect animals from mistreatment and cruelty by imposing a penalty for those acts. Most of these laws fall under the purpose of morality, meaning the purpose is not to protect the animals, but to keep people on the straight and narrow. You can approach a lawyer.
