Hello,
We found a new owner for our dog last August, however, other than a verbal agreement, we did not transfer ownership on paper. The current owner is claiming that our dog was emaciated, abused and has bad hips and now he has bitten him. We do have health records that would disprove what he's saying, but what is our liability in regard to being bitten? I did call and ask the current owner if he felt overwhelmed and if we needed to come and retrieve the dog and he was very emphatic about the dog being his and being okay. We plan to take copies of his records and transfer ownership in writing, but if current owner doesn't cooperate, I want to know what our liability is. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you. |

I wish to inform you that you can give a notice in writing that as other person is new owner of dog therefore he is liable for all acts of dog. Further you can attach a copy of medical condition of dog to show that dog was of perfect health when it was sold. After notice in writing you have a record in writing that dog was sold. Further if you have received payment through check then you can mention in your notice check number to have evidence that check was for sale price.

I think this is not your fault. You have so proof to show that before selling your dog is medically fit and his behaviors and health is change after that. Legally the responsibility of current owner is more than the past because they keep the dog in their home form few days and not taking care properly because of that the health of dog is become bad. .You must talk to your legal advisor and ask about the proper situation and do as they suggested.
