Confused Mislead by a law firm?

I live in Upstate New York and had left town for New York City after a domestic incident with my husabnd. I retained a divorce attorney in NYC only to find out later that the divorce proceedings had to occur in Buffalo and that I needed to retain another attorney there. I feel as though I was mislead by the attorney in NYC. Is it common practice for a law firm to accept a client who will ultimately need representation elsewhere? Knowing that I have lived in Buffalo for the past 6 years with my husband and our two children, should they have accepted my retainer and agreed to represent me? Thank you, to anyone who can offer their input!

They should refund all fees if they cannot handle it locally for you. WLD can assist if need be.
