Law firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP said Monday it is opening a Reno office and is hiring Joshua “Josh” Hicks, a top aide to Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, to work there.

Hicks, who most recently was Gibbons’ chief of staff, will join Brownstein’s government-relations group and focus on public policy, administrative law, Nevada tax law and election law. He previously was general counsel for the governor’s office.

The Denver-based firm, with nearly 240 attorneys, already has a Nevada presence since its January 2007 merger with Schreck Brigone, a Las Vegas firm focused on the gambling industry. But this is Brownstein’s first Reno office.
