Cool Re: Wrongly convicted Texas man sues lawyer over fees (AP)

The attorney says he is entitled to a $1 million cut of the compensation after working to get more money for people who have been wrongly convicted.

Steven Phillips filed his lawsuit last week against Kevin Glasheen, who successfully lobbied Texas legislators on the issue.

Phillips spent nearly 25 years in prison for a rape and robbery before being cleared. He said Wednesday that Glasheen deserves credit for the new law but that the attorney never performed legal work for him.

Under the old law, Phillips would have collected about $1.2 million. According to the new terms he is due nearly $4.1 million.
