Default lawyer agreement, fees

I paid S$3,000 to a lawyer to have a claim settled. He wrote in his comfirmation letter stated that this amount was to cover cost from Defence to Pretrial interrogotory. The plaintiff agreed to settle, but this lawyer wants extra S$500 for the balance work. Should I pay?
