Default Attorney Abandons After $$$$$$$ and No Action

Other than complain to the state bar, or file a lawsuit, what can one do about a lawyer who takes several thousand dollars of a client's money to represent him, then tries to get the client to settle out of court on something that cannot possibly be settled out of court legally, then abandons him for not settling?
