hi,
the situation started out that i was working on my project using the school's laptop in the study room .. the lady who works @ the library saw i had a bag of chips and a bottle of coffee .. she asked me to remove or take it down stair .. i threw the bag of chips away .. she told me that i had to throw that in the bathroom .. i picked it up and threw in the bathroom's trash can .. she followed me to the bathroom to check on me .. i went outside, in front of the library's bathroom to finish my coffee .. she followed me and stated i could not drink it there .. so i went to the bathroom's hallway to drink the coffee .. she insisted that i have to drink in the bathroom .. i stood there and drank down my coffee .. she was then asked to see my id .. i refused to show it to her .. then she said that she would call the school police .. i said it would be fine and went back to my room .. couple mins. later .. she and the policeman came in .. he started to ask my student id .. i demanded for the reason .. he said that he needed to check my student id .. i showed it to him .. he asked for my driver license .. i showed both to him and put 2 forms of my ids back in my wallet .. the policeman asked for the id the 2nd time again .. i told him that he had seen my ids .. he insisted ..i told him again ..he arrested me and sent to the jail .. they charged me for disorderly conduct w/ a $500 bond .. and have to go to court in jan 2007 .. please let me know if it is legal to arrest people like that ? .. what would be my chance for the judge to drop the case ? .. i personally feel that the policeman had abused his authority .. and the law is so absurd and tyrant in the sense that "i imprison you if you don't do what i tell you" .. please help .. |

You normally do have to comply with the requests and cannot challenge the officer there on the spot. It may be best to just explain that it was all quite confusing and very surprising to you, and you will not do it again.
