Default 4way search means they can search everyone with you?

a buddy of mine was driving, and was pulled over. the cops asked him if they could search his car and he said no. well they later found out that one passenger was on probation with a 4way search clause. and because of that they were able to search the car. is this legal? that because u are with someone on probation, you lose your forth constitutional right? also this took place in the bay area California if that helps any
thank you

Probation alone does not justify a search; what was the reason for the search?

sorry for the delayed response. the person who had the search clause, who was also a back seat passenger, is on probation for 2nd deg. burglary. but he was the only person who was not taken to jail. if they are using his probation as the reason to search the car. wouldn't it make sense for him to be in some trouble for being around the illegal drugs?
