arrested but must go to india

Today, I was arrested for
shoplifting However, I did not shoplift. I took the blame for my best
friend who is in extreme poverty and cannot afford to appear in court and
pay such fines.

However, my grandfather recently passed away and my entire family is flying
to India ---my court appearance is
scheduled for July 10th --but the thing is, the Punjabi culture that I belong
to requires there to be a 5 week process of cremating my grandfather and
carrying out the rituals of a funeral takes a long time. I will not be back
from India until August 1st. Am I allowed to reschedule my court date

You can ask the court, yes, and they may allow it; they will often want some evidence to show that you indeed are coming back.
