Default larceny and fine, then what?

my girlfriend and I are are 17 and we we were caught shoplifting

At the police station before posting bail, we ask the cop what are we being charged for and he said larceny and all we have to do is pay a fine -- What would happen after paying the would we still have to do time in jail.

That is true if handled at the store as a civil matter in many cases...but if criminal charges have been filed you must have a lawyer and you must deal with that and make all efforts to keep that off your record.

Have the lawyer review what is really happening!
