This is the best way to explain our problem ... here is a copy of the email I just sent to our Sheriff. I ----------'d out my name and address, etc.; OH >>> my son let him in
Sheriff Deming, If I might take a few moments of your time, I would like to address a matter involving the Orange County Sheriff's Department that has caused great concern with my family and myself. Please be patient with me, as I will try to make this as brief as possible. My name is -----------. I rent a 2 bedroom apartment at the back of ------------------------------- (although the new address will be changed as the "entrance" to our section has changed to the -------- Ave. entrance, as our apartments have lost their "hotel" status and are now officially "apartments".) Bad area? ... yes. But we have been greatly implemental in its' cleanup, however, as my mentally challenged son, known at least in appearance to most of the frequent Sheriff Officers who travel through here, walks around "spying" for any drug or prostitution traffacking so that he might report it on the internet tip line. We live clean lives. No criminal backgrounds, no drugs, nothing. We are honestly good people who were simply forced because of a life hardship (cancer) to live here. My husband and son-in-law work full time jobs to pay our bills. So, what do I have a problem with, you might ask? How about waking Wednesday morning to find a Deputy looking down at me as I lie asleep in my own bed, nightclothes and all! Supposedly, an excuse I will NOT accept, the Deputy says he was here on a "fugitive warrant" looking for a Chris Kahn (sp?). Funny thing, though. The Deputy did NOT look in any closets (we have 3). He did NOT look at the space under beds. He did NOT look at the spaces hidden in the corner by the "angle of the room" from the doorway. He DID, however, look in on me, waking me up, as my husband and I lay there sleeping (he works late evenings, so we sleep in). He DID look in my kitchen cupboards (WHY ... is Chris Kahn as small as a breadbox???) He did NOT go to either of our neighbors who were home. We have the exact same relationship with this "Chris Kahn" as any other resident here ... he worked in the office here for quite some time and may have been at the desk when we paid our rent. That is it. Now, this is not the first time Deputies have come into our home. We gladly let them in and answered all their questions a couple of months ago, feeling like we were being accused of being drug dealers. We have never done ANYTHING to deserve anyone thinking anything but good things about us. We do not stand outside soliciting drug purchasers or prostitutes. We do not stand outside buying any. We NEVER have anyone come to our apartment to visit. Heck, you could even check my cellphone records if you like ... I'll be leaving you the number at the end of my letter. We call each other, other family members (and repeated calls to the Orange County Jail resording number by, you guessed it, my son, to hear about anyone he may have reported or people who have been on the news.) The ONLY sitting we do outside is the occasional cigarette (keep it away from the grandkids who stay here with us), or to take the grandkids outside (no, unlike all the other parents here, we do not ever let them even 10 feet out the door without us there with them.) We do not have expensive cars, expensive clothes, or anything else of value. We live in a bad area, but, as I am sure you may well know, being from a bad area does not make you bad. We are doing our best with our faith in God to make the best of our time here. It becomes even more difficult now that I feel I have to wear my day clothes to bed for fear of someone coming into my room AGAIN. I am almost 50 years old ... how would you like someone to come into your room as you slept, maybe perhaps the blanket has slipped off a little and you are bearing only Lord knows what to whomever is looking. Not to mention the unkempt hair, etc. I was and still am extremely humiliated! There never has been, nor will there ever be, a reason for anyone to suspect us of ever doing anything illegal. I know from my sons repeated legitimate tips that police don't just show up on a small "tip", we have been told repeatedly that they take the tip and use it to do thier own surveillance and then decide if there is any merit in doing a visit. So, why do we feel like we are being targeted? We want to be able to live in as much peace here as I possibly can. We are doing our part to do just that. Please have your officers do theirs. Sorry ... did not come out as brief as I thought it would. Anyways, thanks so much for your time, and I appreciate any help you can provide in the resolution of this matter. Thank you, ------------- ------------ ----------------- ------------------- |

You may want to first file a complaint with the chief of the dept --. The heads of the dept's are required to investigate these kinds of problems and normally will do so--file directly with him or her and do so in writing...if that does not work, let us know.
