Default Being Accused of Stealing

I am not really concerned but just wanted to ask someone anyway. I work at DMV and couple of weeks ago I met a car dealer there and he took me to a car auction where I looked at different cars. During the auction he dropped his envelope of money and wasnt able to find it. He asked the security guard and they said that they did not find anything.

Now he calls me today after almost a month and asks me that what I was wearing that day. When I asked him why he said that he talked to the security guards again and they said that they found someone on the video tape. He asked me what I was wearing I told him I dont remember but probably a blue dress shirt. Than he said that he wanted to know because he doesn't want to cause anyone any trouble.

My question is can he actually go to the police and get me in trouble. I am not scared but I have never been in any trouble so just wanted to ask. Also if a police officer does contact me or something what should I do.

Any help would be greatly appericiated.

Default Re: Being Accused of Stealing

The bottom line is that if you didn't do anything, the video tape won't show you taking the money. Yes, the man certainly can go to the police. That is his right as a citizen. However, prosecution will not take place unless they review the evidence and find cause to proceed. The most important thing is to follow these steps if you do encounter the police -- American Civil Liberties Union : Know Your Rights: What to Do If You're Stopped by the Police. Hope it works out.
