Default Petit Larceny in NY Prank gone wrong

Two people and myself were in a building on a college campus. In a room there was an event scheduled for the next day. As a prank we took two tables so the event would be post-poned. Granted the prank wasn't that good but we were caught on camera and brought in. We had planned on giving the tables back but I was the first one to be brought in and did not know where the tables were hidden. I was booked for the petit larceny then the next day my friend was brought in and returned the tables. My court date was coming up and I wanted to know what type of penalties I would facing. Thank you

Fines, summary probation possibly some sor tof class and of course a criminal record. You did not say if you belonged to this school or any as a theft conviction could get you tossed out. You really need a lawyer to reduce any damage. You could ask said Lawyer about Diversion programs if available

I do belong to the school and this is only my first offense. The cop had said that he wouldn't of even filed the charge if I could have returned the tables in the first place which unfortunately I couldn't.
