I'm a 17 year old who is currently living with my biological parents. I would like to move out of my house but i have no where to go. Thus, i would like to be adopted. The only problem is that i don't want to leave my town or change schools. Legally, i can make the choice to be adopted or move out. My parents don't treat me right, are argumentave, and abuse me emotionally. I used to be physically abused too, but i pressed child abuse charges against them for me and my sister. What do i do. My sister is 16. Does she have a say in her wanting to move out now? Based on South Carolina's laws (the state i live in) can we- or myself- get help to find a better home? If anyone has answers please respond or email me at danni_rivers17@yahoo.com please. Thank You.

I want to inform you that the age of 18 years is the age of majority in South Carolina. However, you or your sister can get emancipated at the age of 16 years if you can support yourself financially and stay apart from your parents. Your parents must also consent to your emancipation. You must make a petition to the Court. The Court will consider the best interests of the child in making a decision. The Court will consider all the facts and decide the matter.

Adoption for a teen, especially one who is 17, nearly an adult is not likely. I would work with CPS for they can make arrangements for foster homes for you and your sister if they believe the situation warrants. That is the best chance you have of staying in the same area. |
