Complicated International Adoption Question

A woman from Uzbekistan while living in Russia gave birth to a girl on July 23rd 2007. The woman doesn’t know the father and is desperate to drop the baby and go home to Uzbekistan but is being told can not leave the Child in a Russian orphanage. I an American Living in Russia on a multi entry religious workers Visa, would like to know the legality of possibly adopting this child. Can the woman simply sign over rights? Would it have to go before the Russian court for a full adoption process? Or would legal matters have to be done in Uzbekistan? I know this is a very complicated situation but I don’t want to see this desperate mother leave the child in a trash can so she can skip the country. My wife and I have 2 children and have thought a lot about adoption in the past.

You normally would need to go before a Russian court and you would need to do home studies etc. in the USA.

But you can begin the process...it will take time.
