Default Reversing adoption: Can we reverse an adoption in Indiana?

We live in Indiana. We adopted an 11 year old about 4 years ago, we have two biological kids. Our adopted Daugherty has told us that she will not follow our rules and does not care about us, she said she can't stand us. She steals from all of us and either hides, destroys or give our stuff away. She constantly yells at everyone. She lies constantly, she has no emotional connection to anyone, she has abused our dog. She went to the police and school and reported that we've abused her physically and sexually, we were interviewed by a detective and CPS and were told that they believe the charges are false(which they are). She bruised her arm by twisting it, the detective confirmed it and the investigation stopped. Our relationship with our biological kids has suffered because she has made their life very difficult and their grades are now suffering. She came from a foster mother that gave her everything she wanted and fed her only chicken nuggets and chocolate milk, she has resented us from the beginning because we would not continue that practice. My wife and I have a very healthy relationship but we're worried she will continue to seek to damage the relationship with our biological kids. We've gone to counseling as a family but it did not help, she said we're not her real family so she will never like us. We've done everything we can to give her a home and all we can to make her life good. We are at our wits end, is it possible to reverse an adoption in Indiana?

There are other posts about that on this forum so see those too.

It is not easy to do but is possible. She can also be sent to another home or reform type facilities if need be.
Most will tell you that you have to try all solutions but it seems you have been doing that.

Adoptions can be undone in extreme situations and this may be one. Talk to local family law counsel or email World Law lawyers to review details. You have to resolve this problem somehow.

Has she been seen by a medical doctor for possible brain problems?

You could send her to boarding school or some other institution that deals with problematic children. It's sad that these children as so neglected and abused that they never learned empathy or how to love or be loved.

My husband and I adopted two girls from Ukraine 3 years ago. We have experienced the EXACT same things. I have two biological boys and our family has not been the same. The youngest of the two girls stabbed my youngest boy with a screw driver, they lie constantly, steal and threaten to kill our biological children. We FINALLY found out why. Look up Reactive Attachment Disorder....that is what my girls were eventually diagnosed with. We are all receiving intensive 4 hour therapy sessions, have to utilize a respite care worker when the girls become uncontrollable. Also, it might benefit you to look up Nancy Thomas and her books on the subject. She has become a national speaker on this disorder ever since she experienced an adopted child with this disorder. Very common for institutionalized or traumatized children. It sounds like your child has many of the symptoms. She has helped over 40 children with this disorder herself. 90% of them have murdered in the past. This is a very serious condition and one you really need to get diagnosed. Unfortunately, not many therapists are experienced enough with this, even if they say they work with adopted children. There was an HBO special on Nancy Thomas and her daughter called "Child of Rage". Start there and hopefully that will help guide you to the appropriate help if you have not found it yet. You would be surprised how many of us are out there dealing with this same situation. God Bless and I pray the best for you and your family.

My family is going through this right now. We adopted a 7 year old girl two years ago. Her reactive attachment has gotten extreme. THreatened to kill us all in our sleep, rages, and outbursts that we video tape to show that we are not doing anything to her. She has been recently admitted to a local children's psych ward for evaluation. We have 3 other boys in the house, 15, 8 and 6 months. We are at our wits end as well...children are suffering and afraid of her. Meds, therapy, in-home workers, all she could ever want is not enough...she doesn't want us and wishes we would never have adopted her. I am at the point where we have done all we could and I would not feel bad to reverse this adoption for my family's sake and safety. It has been wonderful for the last few days with her gone. I don't know how to take her back at this point. SOunds horrible and I never thought we would be in this position, but she must go if she doesn't get better. I trust God to lead us properly.

OMG, me and my husband are going through the same thing. We have a 10 yr old daughter adopted from Ukraine when she was 2 yrs old. She was DX w/RAD in December 2013, she has a fix on looking up porno online anywhere she has access to computers, she has no computer at home but still manages to get caught looking elsewhere, she has choked my little dog (dog is ok). Now she has a fascination w/death. she has made comments like "My parents are dead".

We are scared of her, we have contacted attorneys her in Las Vegas and no one can help because of NV law.

Has anyone heard of According to Art. 18 of the Family Code of the Ukraine? Looks like we can reverse the adoption if the child has any mental issues. I will keep researching and keep you all posted and hope we can all help each other.

If anyone can help post to this website or email me lorry702@yahoo.com
